TURNING THE TIDE FOR BIRTH AND BREASTFEEDING 2025 WEBINAR

Did you miss our Conference in person? Turning the Tide for Birth and Breastfeeding program is also available online. You can watch all the inspiring content in your own time, in the comfort of your home. 

This conference brings together a diverse community of healthcare professionals, lactation consultants, birth workers, and advocates to discuss the latest developments in maternal and infant health. Our 2025 conference aims to explore the challenges and opportunities within the fields of birth and breastfeeding, with a focus on turning the tide toward improved outcomes for mothers and babies.

Highlights include:

  • Professor Lisa Amir a general practitioner and lactation consultant will cover 25 years of research in mastitis.
  • Melanie Briggs a Gumbayngirr Dharawal descendent and endorsed midwife will discuss Birthing on Country for First Nations families.
  • Dr Amber Hart a GP and IBCLC delves into tongue tie research and infant low weight gain.
  • Nancy Mohrbacher an IBCLC and author from Chicago shows us how to support the transition to direct breastfeeding after use of bottles and shields.
  • Ranmali Rodrigo a consultant neonatologist, IBCLC and head of the Mercy Health Breast Milk Bank covers Neo-BFHI -promoting human milk feeding in the NICU.

All funds raised go to support the work of the Warrnambool Breastfeeding Centre

BREASTFEEDING PREPARATION CLASS

This class is a comprehensive 3-hr course designed to prepare expecting parents for breastfeeding their baby. It is being run by qualified lactation consultant (IBCLC) Barb Glare. Key topics:

-How to breastfeed-How breastfeeding works
-Navigating the first breastfeeds
-Building your support network
-Antenatal expressing
-Common breastfeeding problems
-Getting out and about with a breastfeeding baby

When: 10am-1pm Saturday 1st March 2025

Cost: $80ea - Limited places available. Includes morning tea & 1 complimentary registration - we recommend a partner or support person accompanies you.

NEWBORN FIRST AID

Newborn First Aid is a comprehensive 2-hour course by Summit First Aid, tailored for current & expectant parents & grandparents.

  • Safe sleeping
  • Infant CPR
  • Drowning
  • Choking
  • Insect Bites
  • Head injuries
  • Tissue injuries
  • Febrile convulsions
  • Allergic reactions
  • Common rashes
  • Who to call

INFANT MASSAGE CLASSES

Thrive Paediatric Massage

Learn the lifelong skill of massage in classes suited for newborns through to toddlers.

Classes available include:

  • Introduction to Infant Massage: 1-hour class covering the basic techniques and principles of baby massage. We will discuss appropriate oils, daily cycle, infant cues, benefits & contradictions of infant massage.
  • Infant Massage 4-Week Class: 4x 1-hour classes on a weekly basis. This course covers the basics included in the Intro Class along with Indian & Swedish massage, reflexology, lymphatic exercise, touch relaxation and the colic, wind & constipation sequence.
  • Toddler Storytime Massage Class: 1-hour class. Learn to incorporate a nighttime massage into your storytime to assist with cortisol release & aid sleep. A great skill to help promote emotional regulation in your little one.

MUSICAL MONDAYS

Singing sessions run every Monday at 10am and again at 11am. It costs a gold coin donation per family.

These children's song & dance sessions are suitable for children of all ages & a great way to meet other parents. We recommend those with smaller children come along to the afternoon session.

Please stay after the sing-alongs for a cuppa and a chat! We hope to see you there.

Note: Singing doesn't currently run on school holidays unless otherwise advertised.

 

WORK-IT-OUT WEDNESDAYS

Every Wednesday we have a drop-in day for free lactation support from an accredited lactation consultant (IBCLC), no appointments required.

Seek advice regarding feeding, attachment & positioning, starting solids, allergies, sleep and more!

SOUTH WEST CLOTH NAPPY LIBRARY

The cloth nappy library is a volunteer-run initiative providing information & support for those in Warrnambool + South West Victoria wanting to learn about modern cloth nappies. Discover different brands, styles, sizing, washing tips, and hire nappies to try out.
 
Information sessions are free to attend. If you'd like to trial some different types of modern cloth nappies, you can borrow packs for a period of 6 weeks for just $10 each (cleaning fee).
